ANCHORS UP WEEKLY: OCEAN FREIGHT
California and Georgia Taking on Severe Port Congestion
California: Continual port congestion along California’s coast is still high concern, with no ‘quick fix’ in sight. Here are two ports to be aware of:
Los Angeles/Long Beach: As of 3/16, there are still over 42 anchored vessels waiting to dock at the port. With COSCO’s decision remaining to not dock at this port until it clears up, the congestion still continues.
Oakland/San Francisco: As of 3/16, there are now over 17 anchored vessels waiting to dock at the port, compared to 13 on 3/10 (via Freightwaves). This is a new stress point of the port congestion we have been seeing, due to the elongated period of congestion at Long Beach.
Georgia: As of 3/16, 27 vessels are waiting to dock at the Savannah port. This is a 3-week high according to Freightwaves, who reported only 10 last week, and 22 the week before.
Interlog’s Expert Suggestions:
- Both Long Beach and Oakland ports should be avoided to ensure preferred transit times. To confidently re-route your cargo to other West-Coast ports, please reach out to our team today. We are actively staying up to date on availably.
- With the stark increase compared to last week, Savannah has the potential to quickly reach a similar level of congestion as Long Beach. Rerouting away from Savannah for the time being is recommended.
