Georgia Ports Authority to Use Underused Berth as Ship Staging Area
The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) will be using their underused berth to ‘park’ ships ahead of their unloading at their main container terminal, effective immediately the GPA states in a press release.
What does this look like?
While the GPA is currently revamping Ocean Terminal that berth space will be utilized as a “staging area for big ships,” GPA President and CEO Griff Lynch states. Allowing for a reduction in the “transition time between large vessels departing and arriving” while in turn will allow them to handle more TEUs, Lynch said in the GPA press release.
