Tariffs:

There has been a lot changing when it comes to tariffs. Last Wednesday, April 2nd, President Trump announced his reciprocal tariff plan that would implement a baseline 10% tariff on all countries – effective April 5th at 12:01am EDT. During that press conference on the 2nd, President Trump also implemented a specific reciprocal tariff increase that would target countries that have large trade imbalances with the U.S., that would go into effect on April 9th at 12:01am EDT – per the White House tariff policy report. There was the possibility, under the President’s discretion, that tariffs could be modified should countries either add reciprocal tariffs of their own, or decrease current tariffs.

Shortly after, China issued their own reciprocal tariff of 34% on all imports coming into the country from the U.S. In response, President Trump imposed an additional 50% reciprocal tariff (effective April 9th), marking that total reciprocal tariff for China being 84%. Again, China responded, their 34% will be bumped up to 84% as well. As of midday April 9th, President Trump announced he would be pausing his reciprocal tariffs for 90 days, with those 75 non-retaliatory countries only seeing a 10% baseline tariff, per NBC News. Except for ones on China, he has raised those to 125%.
